Time Flies!
Throughout the year we have focused on many different topics in our counseling sessions. These topics have included: respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, caring, and fairness. We have covered other topics such as bullies and friendship within the 6 pillars of character. We have also focused on keeping our bodies safe from uncomfortable touches and from Tricky People. Each grade level is presented a lesson to teach children the following for safety:
  1. My body is my own. No one has the right to touch me in a way that makes me feel uncomfortable. Students have learned that their private parts (the parts we keep covered by a swimsuit) are private and no one has the right to touch them and ask them to keep it a secret. We discuss going to the doctor and getting help with baths and washing hair.
  2. I have the right to say No.
  3. Get Away and Tell someone.

This is a very important topic to discuss at home with your child also. When discussing "tricky people" we learn that even though someone may look nice and seem nice they are still strangers if you don't know them and your parents don't know them. We discuss several safety rules including NEVER get in a car or truck with someone you don't know and NEVER leave a place with someone you don't know.

If you have questions regarding this curriculum, please feel free to contact me. There are attachments on this website to help reinforce this topic. Also, your child should bring home a color page or booklet that corresponds with these topics.
Newsletters
Each month we will send home a copy of the "Home and School Connection". It is also accessible to you online:

RESPECT
The first 6 weeks we will focus on manners and Respect. Some of the character traits your children will learn about include:
  • Respect
  • Courage
  • Considerate
  • Courtesy
  • Polite

We will learn how to practice the "Golden Rule"~Treat others the way you want to be treated. We will also have lessons focusing on our words. One saying that will be often heard is "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all".
